Happy Skipbo de Mayo!

Every year around the end of May, a yearly tradition continues to grow. The playing of SkipBo (see image below) is perhaps the most exciting part of May. In recent years, the competition and excitement we all love has become a tradition similar in name to that of Cinco de Mayo. Eating at an Italian restaurant and the drinking alcoholic beverages (such as Sangria) is usually involved. Currently in its fourth year of celebration, Skipbo de Mayo is has occurred now in 2 states, (Tennessee and Kentucky) and is slowly but surely spreading its reputation as an enjoyable yet competitive way for friends to interact and also meet new people.

If you have never played Skipbo, I suggest you try. It can be purchased at almost any store that carries toys for kids, including Wal-Mart or Target. It is also very inexpensive.

Mapcouch Tip: When you celebrate Skipbo de Mayo, be absolutely sure to tell your friends, Happy Skipbo de Mayo!

Visioneers Movie Trailer....

I was browsing around, and looking for a quick post, (as I have been super-busy and can't get my guest-posters to get their acts together) and found this super-cool movie trailer for a new movie called Visioneers. I'm not quite sure how to approach this trailer, other than just letting you watch it for yourself. Check it out.

Great Way to Feed the Needy!

Keeping with the tradition of the MapCouch is the quality and characteristic of charity. In this post, I'd like to feature a great website: FreeRice.com
In very basic terms this site uses a simple vocabulary game to not only educate users on their vocabulary skills, but also uses correct answers to feed the hungry. For every vocabulary question you answer correctly, the site (from sponsors) donates 20 grains of rice. This may not seem like a lot, but do the quiz until you rack up about 500 or so, and you've fed somebody for a little more than one meal. Be sure to go over to FreeRice.com and try out their game. There's no better way to learn vocabulary than practice, and there's no better way to feed the needy than by using education!

MapCouch Tip: Always be sure to tell panhandlers you don't support panhandling, you support charities.

Hit A&E show pulls out of Memphis!!!

Recently, the Memphis Police Department Director Larry Godwin decided to nix the contract between the department and the hit A&E show, "The First 48," The Commercial Appeal reports. Read the full text of the article here.

This is a huge problem! Not only for fans of the show, but for the repercussions that could occur. First of all, thousands of fans of this show will lose the viewing entertainment that the city of Memphis allows them to have. Memphis landmarks, including Beale Street, the Stax Museum, and Graceland have been used as backdrops for this amazing TV show. Additionally, as the show's producer states, this show helps build relationships between officers working homicide units in the city, and the general public, allowing for more tips and more solved cases. Also, it makes people aware of how important descriptions and information are to officers working homicide cases, and can be beneficial when more accurate information is provided.

Visit this page to sign the petition that will attempt to keep the First 48 in Memphis.

MapCouch's Favorite Class Act

You might have seen this guy on YouTube, or heard about him through some other means. It doesn't matter what you might have heard; this guy can play. To quote his website: "It can be observed that Andy likes to try different things with the guitar such as; altered tunings, partial capos, percussive hits, and tapping. But in the hands of Andy these are not mere parlor tricks, they are compositional tools used to create some of the finest crafted music for the steel string acoustic guitar."

Andy is one of the finest guitar players I've ever seen. I just like the fact that the guy can play as well as he can and then incorporate other stuff into the music to give it dimensions. You can check Andy out @ www.andymckee.com. Here is a video of Andy doing what he does best.
